Fabric-safe cleaning
How we clean your sofa
Test the fabric
We read the care label and test a hidden spot, so the method suits the fabric and the colour will not run.
Vacuum and pre-treat
We vacuum out crumbs, dust and pet hair, then treat stains and body oil on the arms and headrests.
Clean and rinse
Fabric gets a low-moisture rinse and extraction. Leather is cleaned by hand with a pH-balanced cleaner, then conditioned.
Groom and dry
We groom the pile and leave the cushions to dry upright. Most fabric sofas are dry in 4 to 6 hours.
What affects the price
The size of the sofa
An armchair is from £35, a 2-seater from £55, a 3-seater from £70 and a corner sofa from £95. A sofa bed, a chaise end or loose back cushions add time, so send us a photo and we price it first.
The fabric
Most fabrics take a standard low-moisture clean. Delicate fabrics such as velvet or linen need a slower, gentler clean, and leather is cleaned by hand and conditioned.
How dirty it is
Years of body oil on the arms and headrests, pet urine or a lot of pet hair need more pre-treatment. If a sofa needs more than a standard clean, we tell you why and what it costs before we start.
How much you book
The minimum charge is £60. Dining chairs are from £10 each, so it is worth adding them, a rug or a mattress to the same visit. For rooms as well, see carpet cleaning.
Fabrics we clean
Reading the care label
Most sofas have a code on the label under a seat cushion. W means water-based cleaning is fine, S means solvent only, W/S means either, and X means vacuum only. We check it and tell you what we can do before we start.
Polyester, nylon and microfibre
Most modern sofas are synthetic. They take a low-moisture rinse and extraction well, and are usually dry in 4 to 6 hours.
Cotton and linen
Natural fibres can shrink or brown if they get too wet. We keep the moisture low and dry them with air moving across the fabric.
Velvet and chenille
The pile crushes and shows marks easily. We clean it gently and brush the pile in one direction so it dries even.
Leather
Cleaned by hand with a pH-balanced cleaner, then conditioned so it does not dry out or crack. You can sit on it straight away.
Stains: what comes out
Usually lifts well
Food, tea, coffee, wine, mud, and the grey build-up of body oil on the arms and headrests, especially when the stain is fresh.
Pet urine and smells
We vacuum the hair out first, then treat urine with an enzyme cleaner that breaks down the source of the smell. Urine that has soaked deep into the cushion foam can be harder to shift fully.
May only fade
Ink, make-up, dye transfer from new jeans and stains that have been there for years. We test them first and tell you what is likely to lift.
Will not come out
Bleach marks, burns, sun fading and worn patches. That is damage to the fabric, not dirt, so a clean cannot bring it back. We point these out before we start.
Getting the sofa ready
Send a photo
WhatsApp us a photo of the sofa and the care label. It helps us bring the right products and give you a fixed price.
Clear the sofa
Take off throws, cushions you do not want cleaned, toys and anything down the sides. Clear a little space round the sofa so we can work.
Drying and keeping it fresh
Helping it dry
Most fabric sofas are dry in 4 to 6 hours. Open a window or put the heating on, and leave the cushions standing upright until they are dry.
Before you sit on it
Wait until the fabric is dry, and avoid sitting on a damp sofa in new dark jeans, because dye can transfer onto light fabric.
Keeping it clean
Vacuum the sofa once a week with the upholstery tool, and turn and swap the seat cushions so they wear evenly. Blot spills with a clean white cloth and cold water, and do not rub.
Do it yourself or call us?
Spot cleaning at home
For a fresh spill, blot with a clean white cloth and cold water, working from the edge of the stain inwards. Check the care label code and test any cleaner on a hidden spot first.
Washing the covers
Removable covers can shrink in a washing machine and then not fit back on. Leave them on the cushions and we clean them in place.
Why hire machines go wrong
A hire machine puts in more water than it pulls back out. On a sofa that water soaks into the cushion foam, so the fabric dries slowly and can leave brown rings or shrink.
What we do differently
We test the fabric, pre-treat the stains, then rinse with low moisture and strong extraction, so less water reaches the foam and the sofa dries in hours, not days.
How often to clean a sofa
Every 12 to 18 months in most homes. Every 6 to 12 months if you have pets or young children, or the sofa is used every day.
How a visit works
Point out the problem areas
Show us any stain or mark, and tell us what caused it and whether anything has been used on it already. Some home stain removers set a stain or strip the colour, and that changes what we use.
Water and power
We bring the products and the equipment. We only need running water and a plug socket, so leave both on until we finish.
Pets and children
Keep them out of the room while we work, and off anything we cleaned until it is dry.

Questions
How much does sofa cleaning cost?
A 2-seater is from £55, a 3-seater from £70, a corner sofa from £95 and an armchair from £35. Heavy staining and delicate fabrics cost more. We confirm a fixed price before we start, and the minimum charge is £60.
How do I get a sofa cleaned?
Send us the sofa size and a photo on WhatsApp, or use the form. We give you a fixed price, then clean it in your home. A 3-seater takes about an hour.
Does sofa cleaning work?
Yes for everyday dirt, body oil, food and drink stains and smells. Some old stains, like ink, dye transfer or bleach marks, may only fade. We tell you before we start.
Which sofa cleaner is best?
For a fresh spill, blot it with a clean cloth and cold water. For a full clean, hire machines often leave fabric too wet, which can cause water marks or shrinkage. A professional clean tests the fabric first.
Can you clean leather sofas?
Yes. We clean leather by hand with a pH-balanced cleaner, then condition it so it does not dry out or crack.
How long does a sofa take to dry?
Most fabric sofas are dry in 4 to 6 hours. Open a window or put the heating on to speed it up. Leather is ready to use straight away.
Can you get pet hair and smells out of a sofa?
Yes. We vacuum the hair out first, then treat urine and odours with an enzyme cleaner that breaks down the source of the smell.
Do you clean armchairs and dining chairs?
Yes. Armchairs are from £35 and dining chairs from £10 each, and the minimum charge is £60. Book them with a sofa and we do them on the same visit.
